Andy returns to directing with his first short film Blink. Andy makes the transition from screenwriter to director with a haunting tale about a nightmare come to life. Blink is a short suspense horror film about a woman who wakes from a nightmare to find that each time she closes her eyes she can hear the 'thing' from her nightmare in the room with her and each time she closes her eyes it draws closer to her. Andy: "I've recently been working on shorts again after quite a break from the medium. A few years ago I found the shorts I watched to be frustrating. There were too many shorts that were nothing more than an anecdote or heavily stylised pieces that lacked meaning. It was a frustrating genre where writers and directors were often content to hinge a short on a camera technique or a cheap punchline than looking to take the genre forward. I didn't want pretty or particularly expensive I wanted characters and depth." In the short the central character of Kate is played by the actress Emma Dennis. Blink was filmed over four long nights in October 2004. The short is currently in the final stages of post production and will be screening here on the site when it is completed. In the meantime here are some captures from the film. Andy: "It was tough given the constraints of the kit that we shot on but important to me to try and keep the darkness as true to life as possible. If Kate could barely see I wanted the same to apply to us. I wanted us to share her nightmare, be in this with her."
